The State of Israel and the Republic of Uruguay have maintained diplomatic relations since May 19, 1948, with Uruguay being the fourth Israeli embassy to be established.
Below we highlight some important events in the relationship between both countries.
In the months of June and July, Ambassador Enrique Rodríguez Fabregat, in his capacity as a member of UNSCOP, went to directly and personally observe what was then a territory part of the British Mandate, fulfilling his official mission, holding parallel meetings remembered in books and memoirs about those years.
Diplomatic relations were established between Uruguay and Israel.
Ambassador Yaacov Tsur was appointed as Israel's fourth diplomatic representative in the world, and the first in Latin America.
A Free Trade Agreement was reached between Mercosur and Israel.
On December 18, 2010, Mercosur and Israel signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), within the framework of the XXXIV Ordinary Meeting of the Mercosur Council. The delegation that arrived from Israel for the occasion was headed by the Deputy Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Industry, Commerce and Labor, Eliyahu Yishai, and included the Deputy Director General of this ministry and also responsible for the Department of Foreign Trade, Boaz Hirsch. ; as well as the Israeli ambassadors in Buenos Aires and Brasilia. In addition, they were accompanied by a group of high-level officials from the ministries of Industry, Commerce and Labor and Foreign Relations.
The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining of Uruguay (MIEM) and OurCrowd, Israel's most active venture capital investor and a leading operator of Israeli and global incubators, are pleased to announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the potential establishment of a Technology Incubator in Uruguay within the framework of the Uruguay Innovation HUB (UIH) Program.
The MOU was signed on Sunday, March 26 at OurCrowd's offices in Jerusalem with OurCrowd CEO Jon Medved, OurCrowd Partner and Director of Incubators Ori Sobovitz, and Uruguay's Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining Omar Paganini.
