A Longstanding and Successful Scientific Collaboration

Scientific cooperation between Israel and Japan began in 2008 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Israel’s Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) based on the 1994 agreement on cooperation in science and technology between the two nations. This collaboration has continued successfully over the years and is highly regarded by researchers from both countries.
Over the years, 22 joint research projects have been funded in fields such as aging, brain research, stem cells, and ICT in advanced technologies. Additionally, initiatives have been promoted, including the participation of young Israeli researchers in prestigious scientific conferences organized by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), alongside ongoing collaboration between researchers and professionals from both countries.

Ambassador Cohen:

“The convening of the joint scientific meeting at this time is an important step in advancing the relationship between Japan and Israel. The two countries, leaders in science and innovation, have much to learn from each other and can achieve outstanding results together. Israel is excited to work with its friend Japan to accelerate cooperation and strengthen the scientific ties for the benefit of both nations.”

Looking Toward the Future

The current committee meeting highlighted both countries’ commitment to continue and deepen cooperation in science, technology, and innovation, recognizing the vast potential in this collaboration to strengthen bilateral ties and promote groundbreaking research.
