ABOUT MASHAV

ASHAV – Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of the State of Israel’s development cooperation programs and humanitarian assistance efforts.  By placing people at the heart of development, MASHAV focuses its development activities on human capacity building and on the ‘training of trainers’ approach, sharing with other countries Israel’s own development experience and expertise as well as innovative technologies and tested methodologies.

In alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and as a member of the family of nations, the State of Israel through MASHAV, shares the global responsibility of striving to overcome development challenges and contributing to the fight against poverty, while leaving no one behind. ​

MISSION

To lead Israel’s efforts in empowering individuals and communities in need by sharing tools and expertise to achieve sustainable development and transformation within their own societies.

HISTORY

MASHAV was established in 1958 following the vision of then Foreign Minister Golda Meir and Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, to assist fellow nations overcome development challenges, by sharing knowhow and technologies which provided the basis of Israel’s own development.

DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

MASHAV emphasizes the importance of creating effective partnerships for development and of implementing cooperation projects both in Israel and abroad with a wide range of partners, with each side contributing its strengths and unique experience and expertise:

  • Active dialogues for development with donor countries and sister agencies
  • Signing bi- and trilateral development cooperation agreements with partner countries
  • Multilateral cooperation

HOW MASHAV WORKS

MASHAV’s training program is comprised of technical assistance and human capacity building based on a demand-driven approach and in accordance with the needs and requests of partner countries. MASHAV’s professional activities take place both in Israel and in partner countries.

In Israel, MASHAV conducts its extensive capacity building program through professional affiliated leading institutes, and through its courses specialized training and consultancy centers:

  • Professional training programs
  • International Conferences
  • Thematic delegations

In Partner Countries:

  • On-the-spot training programs
  • Short and long term expert Consultancies
  • Establishment of Centres of Excellence in Agriculture for professional training

Since its establishment in 1958, MASHAV has been active in 140 countries worldwide, directly training more than 350,000 men and women in a wide variety of fields. MASHAV believes that history calls upon us all to join hands and bring change, hope and opportunity to every single human being. This has been, and continues to be, the backbone of the State of Israel’s international development cooperation.
