The Embassy of Israel in Vietnam hosted a reception in Ho Chi Minh City on June 18 to celebrate the 76th anniversary of Israel's independence.

This year’s celebration honored the courage and civil heroism of the Israeli people which have shaped Israel’s history, given existential challenges the country has been overcoming since its establishment.

On this occasion, Israelis around the world celebrate the nation's founding and its advancements in the fields of technology, innovation, culture and more. Israel has become a dynamic democracy and a leader in scientific progress, making significant contributions to global society.

Approximately 250 guests, including dignitaries, representing various circles and members of the Israeli community, attended the celebration. Notable attendees included Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee Nguyen Van Dung. Israel and Vietnam have had diplomatic relations for 31 years, culminating in the signing of the Vietnam-Israel Free Trade Agreement last year and paving the way to an unprecedented burgeoning two-way trade. In 2023, turnover between the two countries reached a record 2.7 billion USD.

The event also looked at relations between Israel and Ho Chi Minh City, which has become a hub of bilateral education, research and science cooperation. Notably, Israel’s start-up support programs have promoted Vietnamese young companies in the city through exchange and training with Israeli expertise.

In the night, Israeli pianist Oren Dashti performed a series of specially arranged songs for the event, including a collaboration with a local violinist in a Vietnamese number. Background music for the event was specially arranged for by the renowned Israel’s Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

In his speech, Israeli Ambassador Yaron Mayer remarked on Vietnam’s history of war and triumph and said that today’s peaceful, prosperous and thriving Vietnam gives Israel hope that one day, Israeli too will live in peace and harmony with neighbors.
