The bilateral agreements between the State of Israel and the Kingdom of Spain cover a wide variety of areas, including agriculture, air services and transportation, culture, among others.
In the agricultural field, cooperation agreements have been established that address issues such as energy, desertification and agriculture in general, signed on different dates from 1987 to 1993. Regarding air services and transportation, an agreement was signed in 1989 to regulate air services between both countries.
In terms of security, a cooperation agreement in the fight against crime was established in 2007 to address security issues. In addition, an agreement for mutual recognition and enforcement of judicial decisions in civil and commercial matters has been signed in 1989 to promote trade.
In the cultural sphere, several agreements have been signed, including one in 2017 covering education, science, culture, youth and sports cooperation, as well as specific agreements related to cinema. In addition, an agreement on paid employment of diplomats and technical staff in diplomatic missions was established in 2009.
On energy and environmental issues, cooperation agreements have been signed in 1993 to promote cooperation in these areas. Scientific and technological cooperation agreements have also been established, as well as cultural and tourist exchanges between both countries.
In the judicial field, an agreement was signed for the mutual recognition and execution of sentences in civil and commercial matters in 1989. An agreement was established for the elimination of visas between both countries in 1993.
Finally, agreements have been established to avoid double taxation and prevent tax evasion regarding taxes on income and wealth in 1999. In addition, tourism cooperation agreements and agreements on desertification have been established, including the management of water, signed on different dates from 1987 to 1993. These agreements reflect the wide range of areas in which Israel and Spain have sought to cooperate to promote their common interests.
