About the Consulate General
The Consulate General of the State of Israel in St. Petersburg opened in June 2011.
The opening of the Israeli representative office in St. Petersburg in 2011 coincided with the 20th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Israel and Russia. The Consulate General of the State of Israel in St. Petersburg became the first Israeli diplomatic mission opened outside the Russian capital (the Israeli Embassy operates in Moscow), as well as the country's first consulate general throughout Central and Eastern Europe. This is certainly an important milestone in the development of relations between Israel and Russia. In turn, Russia opened a consulate general in Haifa several years ago.
The area of responsibility of the Consulate General of Israel in St. Petersburg is the entire Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation. The consular district includes St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, the Republic of Karelia and the Komi Republic, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov regions and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Main priorities of the consulate:
- outreach work aimed at increasing awareness of Israel among the general public of St. Petersburg and the North-Western region of Russia;
- strengthening and developing cooperation in the field of culture and art, science and education
- development of economic ties, including assistance to Israeli businesses interested in the local market.
