Mashav Course on Small Ruminant Farming

Background

The sheep and goat industry in Israel is an integral part of local agriculture, combining a rich tradition with advanced technologies. The industry includes approximately 2,400 farms managing around 520,000 sheep and goats, utilizing diverse farming systems. These range from extensive grazing, primarily practiced by Bedouin (nomadic) farmers in the south, to modern Kibbutz and Moshav farms specializing in intensive dairy and meat production.
Through genetic improvement programs, research and development, and professional advisory services, efforts are being made to enhance the industry’s efficiency and sustainability. The combination of tradition, innovation, and expert support positions Israel as a global leader in the field and a key hub of expertise.

About the Course

The training program aims to share with participants Israel's acquired experience in the development of Small Ruminant Farming - Sheep and Goats.
The course will also serve as a platform for discussing the application of the latest methods, new strategies and technologies in the unique conditions of each participating countries.

General Information

Arrival and Departure
Arrival date: 19th May 2025 (Hotel rooms available from 14:00)
Official Opening date: 20th May, 2025
Departure date: 30th May, 2025 (Check out until 11:00am)
Participants must arrive in Israel on the arrival date, and leave on the departure date. Early arrivals/late departures if required, must be fully coordinated in advance with the Embassy of Israel. Participants will have to cover any additional costs that may be incurred from early/late arrival/departure.

Location and Accommodation
The training program will take place at - or near MATC - MASHAV's International Agricultural Training Center in Kibbutz Shefayim situated 20 km north of Tel Aviv and near the coastal city of Netanya. Participants will be accommodated in double rooms on a FB basis. (The specific hotel will be confirmed)

MASHAV awards a limited number of scholarships. The scholarship covers the cost of the training program including lectures and field visits, full board accommodation in double rooms, health insurance and transfers to and from the airport. Airfares and daily allowance are not included in the scholarship.

Application Requirements

  • The course is geared towards professionals from governmental and non-governmental institutions, universities, research institutes and/or private sector, involved in the development of the vegetable sector on a national, regional or local level.

  • Candidates should hold an academic degree in related disciplines and at least two years of professional experience. 

  • A full command of English is required.
