Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone

H.E. Mr. Roey Gilad is the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone since September 3rd, 2023.

Prior to his appointment, H.E. Roey Gilad served as an Ambassador at the Center for Policy Research at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2019 to 2021, he was the Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Turkiye.

Ambassador Gilad is a career diplomat with over 30 years diplomatic experience in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After his Cadet training in 1988, he worked for two years at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His first diplomatic posting was in Nairobi, Kenya where he served as the Second Secretary between 1991 and 1994. From there, he returned to the Ministry to serve as First Secretary at the Centre for Policy Research from 1994 to 1997.

Other roles that Ambassador Gilad assumed as a diplomat include, Spokesperson and Media Counselor, Embassy of Israel to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (1997-2001); Head of Department, Center for Policy Research, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2001-2003); Minister Counselor, Head of Political Department, Embassy of Israel to the United Kingdom (2003-2007); Head of Export Control Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007-2011); National Defense College, Israeli Defense Forces (2011-2012); Consul General, Israeli Consulate to the Mid-West of the USA, Chicago (2012-2016); and Minister, Center for Policy Research, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2016-2019).

H.E. Roey Gilad holds a Bachelors’ degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Tel Aviv, Masters’ degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the Hebrew University. He also has a postgraduate degree in National Security from the Israeli Military College for National Defense in Haifa University.

He is an avid marathon runner who has completed 12 marathons all over the world. Ambassador Gilad is married to Nitza Gilad and they have a daughter, Avigail Gilad. 

Leveraging on his long diplomatic service, H.E. Roey Gilad is looking forward to deepen the relations between the State of Israel and Ghana on government to government, business to business and people to people levels.

“I am looking forward to represent the State of Israel in Ghana which is known to have a stable and strong bilateral relations with Israel. I am coming to Ghana at a time when Israel is facing unprecedented challenges. As part of my role, I would like to brief the leadership and people of Ghana of about these  challenges.”
