The Embassy of Israel in Helsinki covers both Finland and Estonia

The State of Israel recognized the Republic of Estonia on the 4th of September 1991, and diplomatic relations were formed between the countries on the 9th January 1992. 

The first Israeli Ambassador to Estonia was Ambassador Shemi Tzur (2003-2007, non-resident, Helsinki). The Israeli Embassy covering Estonia is located in Helsinki, and diplomats from this location frequently travel to Estonia. 

Israel was among the first nations to recognize Estonia's independence in 1991. Since then, the states' relationship has flourished, characterized by an active dialogue and shared experiences. Strong common areas of interest are, for example, economic cooperation, regional stability, IT & cybersecurity and joint global security initiatives. 

Noteworthy delegations include a visit by President of Israel, Shimon Peres, to Estonia in 2007, and Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets visit to Israel in 2022.

In 2007, to further solidify the bilateral ties, Israel appointed Mr. Leon Glikman as the Honorary Consul to Estonia. 

Estonia and Israel maintain a dynamic trade relationship, leveraging their strengths in technology, innovation, and security. Both countries, as OECD members, have policies that foster free trade and investment, enhancing economic collaboration.

In 2023, Israel Aerospace Industries secured a 100M€ defense industry export deal with NATO member Estonia.
