Israeli citizens residing in a foreign country.
The applicant for the service must appear in person at the mission.
Application for renunciation of citizenship by an Israeli citizen residing in a foreign country.
To visit the mission, it is necessary to schedule an appointment in advance.
Before coming to the mission, make sure you have with you all the required documents and completed forms.
Payment must be made according to the Consular fee Chart
Israeli Citizenship can be renounced either as an adult or as a minor in different circumstances. All renunciation requests have to be made physically at the Consulate, apart from special circumstances for minors which will be expanded on further down. All applicants must have a foreign passport with at least 2 years validity on it at the time of submitting the application.
Renunciation requests take up to 6 months to be processed, and the final decision is taken by the Minister of Interior.
Adults: Adults over the age of 18 must have their military status determined, have lived out of Israel for 3 out of 5 consecutive years leading up to the date of request, and have their personal data updated (personal status and register any children as Israeli prior to renouncing their citizenship). Each adult submits an application for him/herself, and any minor children if relevant.
Minors: A minor who was born in Israel can only renounce his/her citizenship if their whole family renounces it. Otherwise, they can only renounce when they reach 18 and submit an adult application. Minors born outside of Israel can renounce their citizenship with or without their parents, but the Israeli parent must be present to submit the application. If both parents are Israeli, both of them must be present to submit the request. Minors under the age of 15 do not have to be present at time of application. Minors from the age of 15 have to be present at time of application and submit a letter to the IDF to explain their request to renounce their citizenship. Minors from the age of 16.4 must have their military status determined prior to submitting their request.
Family request: When an Israel parent submits a request, the other parent only has to be present if:
1. They are also Israeli.
2. They are not married (whether Israeli or Foreign).
A family request is defined as a request when the Israeli parent wishes to renounce their citizenship together with their minor children. In this case, only one payment is taken for the whole family. Only one form is required - application for adult
Individual requests
1. Each adult over the age of 18 pays for their own request - application for adult
2. If an application is made for a minor with no parents, a payment is made for each minor - application for minor.
Process:
Whilst the application is being processed, applicants are still considered Israeli and must enter and exit Israel with their Israeli passport. Any passport granted within the time of process will be for one year only. After approval, all Israel documentation must be sent to the consulate (passport, ID, drivers license), and then the certificate will be sent to you.
Payment: In 2024, payment for each request is 83 GBP. An apostile stamp on the certificate costs 8 GBP, and postage of Certificate costs 9 GBP. 2 certificates are granted at time of decision.
