THE CHAIRMAN OF THE ISRAEL PARLIAMENT CAME TO PRAGUE TO THANK THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND ITS PEOPLE
It was an incredible honour for us to be part of the visit of the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset, Amir Ohana, who came to the Czech Republic at the invitation of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
And these were the words that Amir Ohana addressed during the press conference in the Chamber of Deputies not only to the deputies and senators, but to everyone in the Czech Republic:
“I came here as the Speaker of the Knesset to express the appreciation of the people of Israel for the uncompromising support of the Czech Republic since the October 7 massacre in the ongoing war that followed. The special connection between Israel and the Czech Republic is deeply rooted in the history of our peoples starting in the days of the first President of Czechoslovakia Tomáš Masaryk after whom streets and squares in Israel are named. This connection lasts to the present when the Czech Republic proudly stands with Israel… in its votes in international organizations, in its repeated statements condemning terrorism and supporting the State of Israel’s right to self-defense. The Czech Republic has demonstrated the true meaning of friendship.
We must not give in to terrorism.
This is unacceptable and it signals to the terrorist organizations around the world that it pays to brutally murder and kidnap and burn children, women, men and the elderly. Break into towns and communities and destroy them. Rape women and then receive the world’s protection against the defending victim.
We are grateful that the Czech Republic stand on the right side of history.”
In addition to the meeting at the Speaker level, the Israeli delegation met with the members of the Defense Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee and also with the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Czech Republic - Israel.
The several minutes' long applause with which the Speaker was greeted by the Chamber at its ongoing session took everyone's breath away.
Even during the follow-up meeting with Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, the Israeli side appreciated the ongoing support of the Czech Republic.
The negotiations at the highest level then concluded with a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala.
"We spoke with Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana mainly about the current situation in Israel and the need to remove Hamas as the ruling force in Gaza. We can only achieve peace and development without terrorists," said the Czech Prime Minister.
