Deputy Head of Mission Eliav Benjamin
Eliav assumed his position as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Israel in Washington DC, in August 2022, after serving as Head of Middle East Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.
Prior to that, Eliav served as Director of Coordination Department in the Director General's Bureau (Aug 2016-Dec 2019), where he was extensively involved with developing the Abraham Accords process.
Previous positions in Israel included Chief of Staff to the Political Director of the Ministry, Policy Advisor to the Director General and upon completion of his cadet training program (2002) served as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Director General for Public Diplomacy, where he also received an award of excellence for managing the International Media Centre during operation Protective Shield.
Spending eight years in assignments overseas, Eliav served as Deputy Consul General of Israel in the Consulate General in Shanghai, China and as Counselor for Political Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC.
Holding a BA Degree in Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies from Tel-Aviv University and an MA in Senior Policy Planning and Management from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Eliav is also a member of a number of Government and Ministerial Steering Committees and served as Capt. (res.) in the IDF Infantry.
Eliav was born in London, England, is married and father of three.
