Today, the Human Rights Council will be discussing Item 7, the epitome of prejudice in the United Nations system against the Jewish state. The only country-specific Item on the agenda, Item 7 has been established during the creation of this Council in full contravention of the mandate of "ensuring universality, objectivity and non-selectivity in the consideration of human rights issues, and the elimination of double standards and politicization".

While no other country, no matter how dire the situation of human rights, has a stand-alone Item on the agenda of the Human Rights Council, Israel is consistently singled out and discussed in length, three times a year, with three yearly resolutions adopted against it. None of these resolutions ever mentions Palestinian terrorist groups or human rights violations committed by de-facto Palestinian authorities against Israelis as well as their own population, which makes it clear that the Item is not focused on improving the human rights situation of Palestinians, but on bashing Israel.

No country which truly values human rights and strives to protect and promote them in an objective, universal manner should participate in the Item 7 deliberations or support any resolutions adopted under it. Israel is looking forward to a structural reform of the Human Rights Council that would abolish Item 7 and absolve the United Nations of inherent bias.
