The European Parliament today passed a resolution stipulating that any call for a ceasefire in Gaza is conditional on the dismantling of the Hamas terrorist organization and the immediate and unconditional release of all the abductees. The resolution was adopted by a large majority of 312 supporters against 131 opponents.

The European Parliament also criticized Hamas' misuse of civilian infrastructure, the construction of attack tunnels and the use of human shields.

In the resolution, the European Parliament expressed shock at the enormous wealth of Hamas leaders at the expense of the Palestinian citizens who live in poverty, and condemned countries that provided financial, material and operational aid to Hamas and called for an investigation to determine the sources of funding and weapon systems of the terrorist organization.

The resolution was adopted, inter alia, thanks to the resolute activity of the Israeli Embassy to the European Union in Brussels, the European Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies in the region.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz: "Today, the European Parliament adopted a precedent-setting resolution stipulating that any ceasefire in Gaza is conditional on the dismantling of the Hamas terrorist organization and the immediate release of all the abductees - and recognized the right of the State of Israel to defend itself. I congratulate the MFA personnel for the diplomatic success, we will continue to work for the interests of the State of Israel."
