The Embassy of Israel held a gathering to mark two special events: the 76th Anniversary of the Establishment of the State of Israel and the 70th Anniversary of Thailand-Israel Diplomatic Relations.
This year, the event was arranged in solemn atmosphere as Israel is still at war, after the October 7 massacre, when more than 1,200 people lost their lives, 41 of them Thai workers. More than 250 people were kidnapped to Gaza, 124 of them are still held hostage, six of them Thais.
In memory of the 41 Thai victims, a special Art Installation was created by Thai artist, Mr. Szack Seksun Toommai, and Israeli artist, Mr. Sammy Nidam, featuring Yai Maeng Mum flags within 41 golden frames. The flags, symbolizing the connection of souls after death, serve as a spiritual homage to provide comfort and solace, ensuring the spiritual journey of the departed is honoured and remembered. The installation was unveiled by Ambassador of Israel, H.E. Ms. Orna Sagiv, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul.
In her speech, Ambassador said, “As we look to the future, we envision a continued partnership between Israel and Thailand, marked by Innovation, Cultural exchange, and shared aspirations for peace and prosperity. Together, we can overcome the challenges that lie ahead and build a world where all of our children can grow up in peace and security.”
