Choice of a last name following a change in marital status

This service enables citizens and residents of Israel to notify Israeli missions abroad of their choice of a last name following marriage, divorce or widowhood.

Who can apply?

 Israeli citizens living abroad, whose marital status has changed following marriage, divorce or widowhood.


A change of name comes into force only after it has been approved by the Population and Immigration Authority. Following the approval, an updated passport may be issued by the mission where the notice was submitted.


An updated ID card will be issued by the Population and Immigration Authority in Israel only.

The applicant for the service must appear in person at the mission.

The applicant must complete the notice of choice of name and the notice of change in marital status (marriage, divorce, widowhood) and bring it in person to an Israeli mission in the country where he lives

To visit the mission, it is necessary schedule an appointment in advance.
Before coming to the mission, make sure you have with you all the required documents and completed forms.

️ Security instructions for arrival at the venue ⚠️

Before your arrival, please follow the following instructions:

1. You must arrive with all your passports - if you have additional foreign citizenships, make sure you arrive with all your passports.
2. It is prohibited to arrive with weapons or self-defense means, including knives, batons, pepper spray, etc.
3. Do not bring electronic devices other than a mobile phone.
Visitors who arrive with computers/tablets will not be allowed entry.
4. No storage of items on site - avoid bringing non-essential equipment.
Also, do not arrive with valuable items and large sums of money.
5. Do not arrive with additional visitors who are not required for the purpose of the meeting.
6. If you have any disability or have undergone medical treatment, such as a pacemaker, platinums, etc., make sure you come with the documents confirming this.
7. There is a police officer in the lobby of the building, you must obey his instructions and act in accordance with his instructions.
