Our mission
The first diplomatic mission of the State of Israel in the world was opened in Poland. Less than half a year after the Jewish State declared independence, in September 1948, Israeli envoy Israel Barzilai arrived in Warsaw and began working at the Bristol Hotel on Krakowskie Przedmieście, fostering Israeli-Polish relations.
At that time, the relationship was built on the shared tragic experiences of Jews and Poles during the Holocaust and World War II. The Israeli diplomatic mission also aimed to support Jewish survivors of the Holocaust who wished to start new lives in Israel.
Official relations, which were severed by the communist Polish government under orders from Moscow in 1967, were resumed in February 1990. The desire to restore and repair these relations was a profound need felt by both Israeli and Polish societies. The revival of relations was fueled by vivid historical experiences and a shared awareness of nearly a thousand years of rich common history.
Since then, the governments of Israel and democratic Poland have signed many important agreements and numerous official visits have focused on strengthening cooperation.
The following issues are crucial in the relations between Israel and Poland:
- Cooperation within the international community and multilateral organizations
- Support, exchange of knowledge, and experience in the field of security and defense
- Trade and economic cooperation
- Dialogue on issues related to common history
- Support for dialogue within civil societies
- Cultural exchanges
- Building bridges of understanding among future generations through youth exchange and meeting programs.
The Embassy of Israel in Poland carries out these tasks daily, in cooperation with partners in Poland, including the local Jewish community, churches and religious associations, public administration, local governments, educational institutions, and cultural centers.
By building lasting and deep relationships within Polish society, we can help strengthen the strategic partnership between Israel and Poland, serving our mutual interests.
