In May, the Embassy of Israel and the Abia State Government laid the groundwork for a future partnership aimed at driving innovation and digitalization within the state. This prospective collaboration was discussed during a visit by the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Michael Freeman, to the Government House in Umuahia, where he met with Governor Alex Otti.

Governor Otti expressed his excitement about the potential partnership, highlighting the shared commitment to leveraging modern economic practices and fostering innovation. He emphasized that the people of Abia are the state's most valuable resource, known for their creativity, resilience, and determination to excel despite past challenges. The governor shared his vision of establishing an Abia Innovation Center, which would focus on advancing human capital development, the digital economy, and innovative practices.

Ambassador Freeman conveyed Israel's interest in collaborating with Abia in areas such as agriculture, education, and technology. He highlighted Israel's expertise in water-efficient agricultural technologies, which could significantly benefit Abia's future cassava, rice, and cocoa production. Freeman also mentioned the Innov8 program, designed to mentor young Nigerian entrepreneurs and innovators, helping them secure funding and achieve success.
