Ambassador Gilad Cohen made his first official visit to Fukushima, meeting with Fukushima Prefecture Governor Masao Uchibori, and Namie Town Vice Mayor Kunihito Yamamoto. The Ambassador reaffirmed Israel’s enduring support for the region since the 2011 tsunami and earthquake, emphasizing shared resilience and recovery efforts.
The visit included a tour of Ukedo Elementary School, still in ruins, serving as a powerful symbol of the community’s resilience. The Ambassador also met with local students and community members, highlighting the strength and determination of the people of Fukushima. Additionally, he visited local companies and expressed his support for Fukushima’s local produce, including its fresh fish. Israel remains committed to supporting Fukushima’s rebuilding efforts and fostering economic collaboration.
