Yesterday (December 2), Consul General Amir Lati especially met with the members of the Hong Kong Jewish Community to discuss the rich history and legacy of these communities, including his own.
In 1948, there were 1,000,000 Jews that lived in Muslim countries. In 2020, only 30,000 Jews remained in those countries.
More than 340,000 Jews, including his own family, left the Islamic world to Israel between 1948-1951. There against the hardships in the newly established state, they built their new life in their historical motherland and prospered.
The guest speaker from Israel via zoom was Prof Haim Saadoun, a renowned expert on the history and culture of Jews from Arab countries and Iran, who contributed his valuable insights to the discussion.
