On September 24, 2024, Mr. Alex Goldman Shayman, Consul General of Israel in Guangzhou, visited the 18th China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair. During the tour, Consul General Gao Wen visited the ZIM booth of ZIM Integrated Shipping (China), communicated with participants, learned about industry trends, and looked for more opportunities for future development and cooperation.
Israel has close economic and trade cooperation with South China. As an important bridge connecting Israel and South China, ZIM has always played an active and important role. Invited by Mr. Kevin Lee (left), President of Zim Shipping to South China and Hong Kong Region, Mr. Alex Goldman Shayman (middle), Consul General and Mr. Abdallah Metanes, CEO of Gold Star Line Ltd. (GSL) attended the Zim’s customer salon.
Consul General Alex Goldman Shayman said in his speech: The past year has not been easy for Israel. For nearly a year, our economy has been operating under challenging conditions, along with the need to protect Israeli citizens and ensure their security. However, we have learned during this time that where there are difficulties and challenges, there are opportunities. Israel's growth engine is the high-tech industry, its hallmark is entrepreneurship, and even in difficult times, Israel has achieved impressive results thanks to the originality, professionalism and resilience that characterize its entrepreneurial activities.
ZIM’s activities and achievements over the past year are a good example. Since the beginning of the year, ZIM's revenue has grown 30.2% to $3.5 billion. The company's profit significantly beat analysts' expectations and topped second-quarter earnings estimates, sending its shares soaring more than 14%. How does this "magic" happen? In my opinion, this is due to the characteristics of many companies in the Israeli economy:
A) Professionalism and a deep understanding of market needs – the company’s smart investment in acquiring a new fleet of ships and massive investment in purchasing new containers.
B) Entrepreneurship and efficiency – opening new and fast shipping routes, such as the route from Shanghai to Los Angeles, allowing express transport in 13 days, or from Yantian to Los Angeles in just 12.5 days.
C) And of course, partnerships and strengthening collaborations. This month, ZIM signed an operational cooperation agreement with MSC, the world’s largest shipping company. The cooperation involves transporting containers along the shipping routes between East Asia and the U.S. East Coast and the ports of the Gulf of Mexico.
