On Monday, 10th June, our Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr Aviel Avraham led the embassy staff and some friends of the embassy to plant over 1,000 trees at the Chippa Forest Reserve within the Shai Osudoku District. This initiative also brought tougher various government officials from the Shai Osudoku District Assembly and Chiefs from the Shai Osudoku Area.
The Jerusalem Forest project is part of the Embassy’s initiative to commemorate the 2024 Jerusalem Day (June 5), the World Environment Day 2024 (June 5) and the Green Ghana Day (June 7). The tree planting initiative was organized in partnership with the Forestry Commission to support the Green Ghana Campaign. Though this initiative, the Embassy of Israel seeks to call for a collective, transformative action to protect and restore Ghana’s green environment.
Again, the embassy also aims to use this collaborative effort, knowledge sharing and capacity-building initiative, to empower local communities and forester sustainable practices that will benefit future generations.
Mr. Aviel Avraham, the Deputy Chief of Mission for the Embassy of Israel used the occasion to emphasis on the need to care for the environment through initiatives such as the Jerusalem Forest project.
“Our commitment to environmental protection extends beyond our borders. Israel stands ready to support and promote Ghana's efforts to create a safe and sustainable environment. Through collaborative projects, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building initiatives, we aim to empower local communities and foster sustainable practices that will benefit future generations as it is clearly stated in this year’s Green Ghana Day theme; Growing for a Greener Tomorrow.”
He also added that “as we plant these trees today, let us remember that each tree represents a promise—a promise to nurture our planet, to protect our natural resources, and to build a legacy of sustainability for our future generation. It is a promise that binds us together in our common goal of creating a better world for all.”
As a desert country, the State of Israel through innovation and caring for the environment has overcome many climatic challenges especially in the area of combatting desertification. It is in this regard that the Embassy supports the government of Ghana’s Green Ghana Day project. The Green Ghana Day project by the government of Ghana is directly in line with Israel’s long-standing agenda of promoting sustainability and environmental protection.
Participants for the exercise include staff of the Embassy, Members of the Israeli Community, representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Forestry Commission, Department of Parks and Gardens, Ghana Garden and Flower Movement, Ghana-Israel Business Chamber, Ghana-Israel Israel Friendship Association, Ghana Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association, and local authorities.
