The relationship between Israel and Ethiopia dates back to Biblical times, when the legendary Queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem as an official guest of King Solomon's court.
In modern times, Israel and Ethiopia established consular ties in 1956 and full diplomatic relations in 1961. After a 16-year hiatus following the Yom Kippur War, diplomatic relations were fully restored in 1989.
