Ambassador Gil Artzyeli was born in Israel. His father's family has continuously lived in Jerusalem for five generations. His mother's side of the family originates in the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Artzyeli graduated as a lawyer from the Faculty of Law of Tel Aviv University. In 1994 he joined the Israeli foreign service as a career diplomat.

Most of the ambassador's diplomatic career is linked to Spanish-speaking countries. He was Consul in Colombia (1995-1998), Spokesperson at the Israeli Embassy in Madrid (1998-2000), Deputy Head of Mission in Mexico (2003-2005), Deputy Consul General in Los Angeles, USA (2008-2012), and Ambassador in Panama (2015-2018).

During his service at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, the Ambassador served as Director of the Diplomatic Cadet Course (2001-2003), Advisor in the European Department (2005-2008), Director in the Office of the Inspector General (2012 - 2015) and Director of the Economic Department for Europe (2019-2022).

In mid-2018, Ambassador Artzyeli took a one-year administrative leave from the Foreign Ministry, to assume the position of Vice-President of Strategic Alliances at OrCam Technologies, an Israeli firm which is a world leader in artificial intelligence solutions for people with visual disabilities.

He performed four years of military service in the Intelligence Unit, reaching the rank of captain.

Ambassador Gil Artzyeli officially began his mission as Israel's ambassador to Chile in July 2022. He is married to Viviana, of Colombian origin, and has a daughter and a son. He is fluent in three languages: Hebrew, Spanish and English.
