Political and Economic

Political and Economic Affairs department is responsible for coordinating relations between Israel and Cameroon in this area. 

During the ambassador's term of office, this department assists the ambassador in implementing the vision of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs with regard to politics and economics. 

The department is also responsible for official visits, national and international relations with states and multilateral actors, humanitarian action, trade, and interaction and exchanges with civil society organizations.

Official visits

Cameroon to Israel

  • In 2016, H.E. Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations attended the funeral of H.E. Shimon Peres, former President of the State of Israel.
  • In 2016, Dr. Madeleine Tchuinte, Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation attended an exposition targeting high level decision makers in the areas of science and innovation. The objective was to highlight Israel’s research potential and to inspire developing countries on the importance of putting research and innovation at the centre of the development effort.
  • In August 2017, H.E. Roger Milla, Roving Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon was received in Israel as an official guest of the State of Israel. H.E. Roger Milla met with high officials, visited schools, disability programs, sports training centres, the Holocaust Museum, the Israel Football Federation and other services. He made partnerships and contacts that are already yielding fruit through his foundation.
  • In 2017, Minister Paul Atanga Nji, Minister of Territorial Administration attended a high level workshop for Ministers of Interior and Public Security.

Israel to Cameroon

  • In 2018, a delegation led by Mr. Rony Hizkiyahu – Paymaster General of the State of Israel visited Cameroon. This was the highest ranked Israeli official to visit Cameroon in many years. The purpose of the visit was to inspect projects involving the Israeli mission in Cameroon and thus to ascertain the efficient use of Israeli public funds for effective cooperation. It should be noted that the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs chose Cameroon as a good example to warrant such a visit.

International Cooperation

  • The embassy facilitated Israel's support for Cameroon’s candidates for various positions in international organizations including the International Telecommunications Union.

Visit lectures at IRIC by high level Professors

  • In 2015, a delegation of 30 students from the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC) visited Israel as part of the training. This cooperation in the area of education and training was followed up in 2017 and 2018 by the visits of renowned Israeli Professors to IRIC for one-week lectures. The Professors involved were Pr. Denis Charbit, Pr. Eli Bar Navi, and HE. Daniel Shek former Ambassador of Israel to France. Ambassador ran GIDOR also gave a lecture in 2017.
  • in February 2024, Ambassador Raphael Morav gave a lecture focused on the October 7 attack. The theme of the conference was: "The Israeli-Hamas War: Foundations, Implications and Prospects for Sustainable Peace in the Middle East and the World". 

Training 

  • In early 2019, a delegation from the division of strategic analysis of the Ministry of External Relations visited Israel to make contacts that may become necessary to develop cooperation in the area of strategic analysis. 

Education 

  • The Embassy has been at the centre of the promotion of Green/Clean School, an initiative of the Minister of Secondary Education that aims to promote and teach the importance of clean school environment and recycling organic waste. The project is on-going and several schools in Yaounde have already received an Israeli innovative equipment that transforms organic and human waste into cooking gas. 

Health 

  • In 2016, an outbreak of bird flu was announced.The embassy mobilized support from Israel and donated equipment for the fight against the epidemic.
  • In 2018, following an outbreak of cholera in parts of Cameroon, the embassy donated water purification units to the Ministry of Health. The units donated were manual and could provide clean drinking water to a community of 500 people without need for maintenance for three years.
  • In 2019, ten of Israel's best surgeons were brought to Cameroon for a one-week workshop to train 50 Cameroonian surgeons. The workshop lasted one week and took place at the Yaoundé Central hospital. Cameroonian surgeons came from all ten regions. Two months later, two surgeons spent six weeks in Israel for further training. 

Humanitarian 

  • In 2017, the Embassy donated modern Braille transcription equipment to PROMHANDICAM - a centre that assists the re-integration and inclusion of persons living with disabilities. The centre provides Braille transcription services to blind persons and to institutions in Cameroon and the CEMAC region. The equipment donated increased the speed, efficiency and volume of work done by the centre.

Trade

  • In 2019, for the first time, Israel had a pavilion at the Yaounde Trade Fair, PROMOTE. Five Israeli companies were invited to display their products on the areas of agriculture, water purification, health and renewable energy.
