Memorial Day for the Fallen soldiers and the victims of terror

The Memorial Day, ‘‘Yom HaZikaron’’, is a Day of tribute to the fallen.

Yom HaZikaron 2024

On the occasion of the Memorial Day observed every year, the Israeli Embassy in Yaoundé joined the Israeli people in paying tribute to all the soldiers who died so that the State of Israel could exist, and to all the victims of terrorism. This year, according to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, 25,040 soldiers and 5,100 victims of terrorism were counted.

On this moving occasion, sirens sounded from Israel to Yaoundé. Israeli Embassy staff joined the Israeli people in observing the minutes of silence. The Chargé affairs Mrs. Noga Lewenstein then took the floor to recall the very foundations of this highly symbolic Day, and urged her colleagues to read the stories of these fallen heroes for the nation of Israel.

The Chargé affairs pointed out that this “Memorial Day” is particularly painful, as some 132 Israelis are still being held hostage by Hamas’s terrorists in Gaza, and many Israeli soldiers have died since the start of the war against Hamas. But this commemoration has its own significance and importance in the current context.

In Jerusalem, the names of the soldiers who fell in honor of their homeland lit up the walls of the capital. May their memory be blessed.
