Israel - Southeastern US Relations

  • 1956 - The Consulate General of Israel to the Southeastern United States is established in Atlanta.
  • 1992 - Georgia Governor Zell Miller creates the Georgia-Israel Exchange to foster collaboration in the high-tech industry and agriculture, enhance trade, encourage tourism, and jointly participate in economic development programs.
  • 1992 - South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell, Jr. signs a Memorandum of Intent to establish a South Carolina-Israel Exchange to promote the bilateral relations through trade, investment, agriculture, education, and tourism.
  • 1994 - Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) establishes a trade office in Israel.
  • 2005 - Delta Airlines Establishes Direct flights from Atlanta to Tel Aviv.
  • 2005 - Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue leads trade mission to Israel.
  • 2011 - Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour leads delegation to Israel.
  • 2012 - South Carolina and Israel launch the South Carolina-Israel Collaboration focused on six areas: biomedical, advanced materials, sustainable systems, transportation, defense/security, and insurance/health IT.
  • 2014 - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal leads delegation to Israel.
  • 2015 - Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant leads delegation to Israel.
  • 2015 - The Tennessee General Assembly becomes the first state in the country to pass an anti-BDS resolution.
  • 2015 - South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2016 - Alabama Governor Robert Bentley signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2016 - Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2017 - North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2018 - The state of Georgia and the Israel Innovation Authority sign MOU.
  • 2018 - Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin signs anti-BDS executive order.
  • 2019 - Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2020 - The Consulate General of Israel to the Southeastern United States and the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College establish the “Covenant” partnership initiative, which draws upon the legacies of African American, Jewish and Israeli leaders and visionaries − Henrietta Szold, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Constance Baker Motley, Yitzhak Rabin, Samuel DuBois Cook, Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
  • 2021- The Cherokee Tribe of Northeast Alabama passes tribal council resolution in support of  Israel as a sovereign Jewish nation, recognizing Jerusalem as its eternal capital.
  • 2021 - Kentucky adopts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism through resolution.
  • 2022 - Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signs proclamation adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
  • 2022 - Georgia - Israel Legislative Caucus established at Georgia state legislature.
  • 2022 - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signs anti-BDS legislation into law.
  • 2022 - Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signs into law the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism.
  • 2022 - The Rome Georgia International Film Festival and Cinema South Festival in Israel sign MOU, marking the first film festival partnership between Israel and U.S.
