The official ceremony for the "International Holocaust Remembrance Day" was held with the lighting of six candles in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. This date was designated by the United Nations in 2005 and is commemorated on January 27 of each year.


The ceremony was attended by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Peter Camino, members of Congress, officials from the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats accredited to Peru, Peruvian Holocaust survivors, and members of the Jewish community.

The event, organized by the Embassy of Israel and the United Nations in Peru, included speeches by the Ambassador of Israel, Eran Yuvan; the Resident Representative of UNDP Peru, Dr. Bettina Woll; the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Ms. Sabine Bloch; the Ambassador of Austria, Ms. Renate Kobler; and the Promoter of the Jewish Museum of Peru, Ms. Karin Fishman.


The event included the participation of Ms. Mariana Farkas de Pollak, a second-generation Auschwitz survivor, the screening of survivor Zalman Gradowski's testimony, recreated with artificial intelligence technology (a project of D-ID, AI for Good, and March of the Living), as well as the lighting of a candle in memory of the victims of the October 7, 2023, massacre.

As part of this official event, the exhibition "From Forgetting to Remembrance" was presented by the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for the Victims of National Socialism for the Austrian Embassy in Peru. It will remain on display until February 7 at the Jewish Museum of Peru.
