On Tuesday, 8TH October 2024, the Embassy of Israel in Accra held a memorial event in remembrance of all the victims of the atrocious October 7 Massacre by Hama terrorists in Israel. It was a solemn event that honoured all the victims of the attack. The event hosted various dignitaries from the Diplomatic Community, Government Officials, Friends of the Embassy and members from the Jewish Community.

It was a solemn event that honoured all the victims of the attack. The event hosted various dignitaries from the Diplomatic Community, Government Officials, Friends of the Embassy and members from the Jewish Community.
In his remarks, H.E. Roey Gilad stressed on the impact of the massacre on all Israelis. “For us as Israelis the darkest day of our history started on the 7th of October at 06:29 but never ended since. We are still mourning the dead and yearning for our captive brothers and sisters. As a nation, we were badly hurt on the 7th of October. Yet our wounds will not be healed till the last abductee person return home.”
Ambassador Gilad also highlighted some of the challenges that the State of Israeli is currently facing and called for support from all Ghanaians, especially the government.
“As we gather here today, Israel is facing many challenges in many fronts simultaneously. We are facing the Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza, the Hezbullah in Lebanon, the Huttis in Yemen, the Shia Militias in Iraq and the Republican Guards in Syria. Above all, we are facing the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Madam Louisa Hanson, Director of the Middle East Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration spoke on behalf of the Government of Ghana. “In commemorating the 1st anniversary of the October 7th massacre, it is our hope that by the next anniversary, the remaining 101 hostages, who are still in captivity would have been release and returned safely to their families and Israel and the entire region living in peace and prosperity.”
As part of the memorial event, a prayer was said for all affected victims and for peace in Israel. Candles where lighted in memory of the departed while 101 yellow balloons where released in the skies for the return of the hostages who are still in Hamas captivity. A major highlight of the Memorial Day was a Ziv Koren photo exhibition of the Massacre as well as a dance performance by renowned Israeli Solo Dancer, Miriam Engel.
