Diplomatic reception in honor of Israel's 76th Independence Day
Under the theme of "Israeli Heroism", we celebrated Israel's 76th Independence Day in the presence Government officials, the diplomatic community, religious leaders and civil society.
In appreciation of the heroic efforts of medical professionals in Israel since the attacks of October 7, the Embassy recognized two doctors, one Israeli and the other Ethiopian, for their commitment to helping people and strengthening the bond between our two nations.
Special guest Dr. Avi Yitzhak, surgeon and CMO of Assuta Beer Sheva hospital, spoke about the challenges in Israel's south during the current war, and how the conflict has touched every family in Israel.
Dr. Fitsum Argaw, who is undergoing advanced training in pediatric cardiac surgery in Israel under the auspices of Save a Child's Heart, spoke about his experiences in Israel and his desire to give back to the people of Ethiopia.
At the event, we also presented an exhibition titled "Sisterhood", which highlights the relationship between women who survived the atrocities of Oct. 7, & the women helping them from the Jewish Agency's Fund for Victims of Terror. Both groups represent Israeli Heroism.
The Embassy's event also marked Jerusalem Day, celebrating 57 years since the reunification of Israel's eternal capital, as well as the official memorial day for members of Beta Israel - Ethiopian Jewish community - who perished during the long journey through Sudan to Israel.
As we marked Israel's 76th Independence Day, we raised a prayer: for continued strength, for the return of our hostages to their homes, and for a future of peace, coexistence and prosperity - for Israel , for Ethiopia and for our fragile world.
