75 years BMH ceremony

A Memorial Ceremony took place today, to mark 75 years since closing the Detention Camps for Jewish Holocaust survivors in Cyprus, in the presence of His Excellency, the President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, as well as other ministers, dignitaries and officials.

In an emotional speech during the Memorial Ceremony marking 75 years since the closing of the Detention Camps for Jewish Holocaust survivors in Cyprus, Ambassador Oren Anolik talked about how here, at BMH in Nicosia, the strong bonds between the Cypriot and the Jewish peoples were forged.

75 years since the closing of the camps, we honor the persistence and solidarity of all those brave Cypriots who assisted the Jewish detainees on their way to Israel.

The fact that so many of them came from Israel especially to attend this ceremony, is a testament of the friendship and strong ties between our peoples.

"Today we are reminded of the common chapter in the history of our people – a chapter marked by resilience, empathy and the pursuit of justice.

May this shared history serve as a powerful legacy, forging bonds of understanding and cooperation," the Ambassador stressed.
