If you are planning to travel to Colombia, we strongly recommend getting vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before your trip, due to the current outbreak and expanded risk zones throughout the country.
Yellow Fever Alert
Colombia is currently experiencing a yellow fever outbreak, and the Ministry of Health has declared a national health emergency. As of April 2025, there have been 79 confirmed cases and 36 related deaths, with active transmission reported in 111 municipalities across 9 departments—notably in Tolima.
Vaccination Guidelines:
- A single dose of the vaccine provides lifelong protection.
- Must be administered at least 10 days before entering risk areas.
- Available free of charge across Colombia, for both locals and international travelers—regardless of immigration status.
- Required for entry into certain high-risk zones and for those arriving from Angola, Uganda, or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
High-Risk Areas Include:
- Entire departments: Amazonas, Arauca, Caquetá, Casanare, Cesar, Chocó, Guainía, Guaviare, Huila, La Guajira, Meta, Putumayo, Tolima, Vaupés, Vichada.
- Additional municipalities in departments such as Antioquia, Bolívar, Boyacá, Caldas, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Nariño, Norte de Santander, Risaralda, Santander, and San Andrés and Providencia (based on ecological risk).
Preventive Measures:
- Wear long-sleeved clothing.
- Use insect repellent and mosquito nets.
- Avoid standing water to reduce mosquito breeding sites.
Travelers should:.
- Stay informed via official channels.
- Follow all instructions from local authorities and the Consulate.
