Travel advice for Israeli citizens to Venezuela

2

On January 10, 2025, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was sworn in for a third term on the basis of fraudulent election results. Edmundo González, who received the most votes in the election, declared himself president in exile that day.

Since the Venezuelan presidential election in July 2024, the internal security and stability situation in the country has worsened. Many took to the streets to protest the election results under the pretext of falsification of the election results, protests that escalated into violent clashes with security forces. During these events, dozens of people were killed, hundreds were injured, and thousands were imprisoned on political grounds, and even foreign citizens were arrested on suspicion of espionage. On January 6, 2025, the Venezuelan Minister of the Interior stated that they were detaining 125 mercenaries from several countries, including Israel.

It should be noted that Venezuela maintains ties with Iran, and even with the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

As a reminder, Venezuela broke relations with Israel in 2009 and, as a result, there is no official Israeli representation in the country. This situation may make it difficult to provide assistance to Israelis visiting the country and experiencing difficult times.

In light of the above, we recommend that Israelis who are not citizens of Venezuela avoid traveling to the country.
