Marking the 12th anniversary from the horrific terror act in Burgas

A terror attack in which a Hezbollah terrorist detonated himself, killing six innocent people – five Israeli tourists and the Bulgarian bus driver, and injuring over 30 Israelis.

Today, the Embassy of Israel in Bulgaria, in collaboration with the Municipality of Burgas and the Honorary Consul of Israel in Burgas, held an emotional ceremony to mark the twelfth anniversary of the terrorist attack at Sarafovo Airport, in which a Hezbollah terrorist detonated himself, killing six innocent people – five Israeli tourists and the Bulgarian bus driver, and injuring over 30 Israelis.

In the presence of the bereaved families, members of parliament, the Minister of Justice, the Governor of Burgas, deputy ministers, the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom", representatives of Jewish organizations, the Israeli community, representatives of state institutions, diplomats, and representatives of the institutions involved in the rescue operation after the attack, the Ambassador of Israel to Bulgaria, Yossi Levi Sfari, stated in his speech, “A line connects the attack carried out here 12 years ago, the one that happened 30 years ago on the same day in Buenos Aires, and the massacre that took place 9 months ago in southern Israel: the Islamic Republic of Iran. Today, Iran is the number one generator of terrorism in the world.”

During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, Mr. Kobi Price, the father of the late Elior Price, who spoke on behalf of the bereaved families, and Mr. Stefan Godzhevergov, Security and Defense Advisor to the President, who read a commemorative speech on behalf of H.E. Rumen Radev.

The ceremony included the lighting of candles in memory of the victims, the recitation of a memorial prayer, and the laying of wreaths and flowers by the representatives of Bulgarian institutions and organizations who attended the commemorative ceremony.
