If one of the spouses is a foreign citizen, he/she needs to sign a declaration regarding their previous personal status before marrying as a notary statement ($15) in front of the Consul.
If this is relevant to you: both spouses must be present at the appointment.
If one of the spouses is a foreigner, only the spouse holding Israeli citizenship is required to be present.
Israeli citizens wishing to give notice of a change in their marital status.
You must submit the application in person at an Israeli mission in the country where you are staying.
The forms and documents required by the mission must first be sent by email, for a preliminary examination prior to your arrival at the mission.
- When one spouse is an Israeli citizen and the other is a foreign citizen, a certified apostille certificate (from the country of origin) indicating the previous personal situation of the foreign spouse must also be presented.
- In countries where it is not possible to obtain a public certificate attesting to a previous personal situation and/or any other document:
- A notarized statement of the foreign citizen on his previous personal situation must be prepared, signed before the consul (or before a notary). In addition, a certificate from the consul must be attached stating that in the country/province it is not possible to obtain an official certificate indicating a previous personal situation.
- A marriage certificate in which a previous personal situation is recorded meets the requirement, when it is verified.
- It is also possible to present a marriage certificate issued in Israel, in which the previous personal status of the foreigner is recorded

In case of marriage, the passports of both spouses must be presented.
If the certificate was issued abroad, it must be authenticated as required (with an apostille stamp in countries where this exists).
Any visit to a mission must be arranged in advance through the online appointment scheduler.
The affidavit that is to be signed must be prepared in advance.
No fee is charged for the service.
To report a change in marital status, please prepare the following:
- Original marriage/divorce certificate verified with an Apostille. An application to marry does not constitute a marriage certificate.
- For an explanation of Apostille and information on Apostille services in the Southeastern United States:
- Notification of Change in Marital Status Form completed by the Israeli citizen (do not sign the form).
- If one of the spouses is a foreign citizen, they must sign a declaration regarding their previous personal status before the marriage as a notary statement in front of the Consul.
- If this applies to you, please select "Change of Personal Status + Notary" when scheduling the appointment.
- If the foreign spouse’s personal status was divorced/widowed, please provide the relevant divorce or death certificate, verified with an Apostille stamp.
Important:
- Name Change: Citizens wishing to change their names due to a change in personal status must bring their Israeli ID card, which the Consulate will send to Israel.
- It will not be possible to process the name change without depositing the ID card.
- If you are unable to deposit the ID card, please inform us in advance.
Note: The Consul may request additional documents on the day of the appointment.
